Chelsea boss Antonio Conte wants to sign Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci in January

Chelsea are going through something of a defensive crisis, and a clean sheet at Hull yesterday isn’t going to solve all their problems.

The Blues have been shipping goals at a rate of knots this season, and they’ve been particularly exposed during John Terry’s recent absence through injury.

Terry missed both the defeats against Liverpool and Arsenal, and never before had the Chelsea skipper seemed some crucial to the Chelsea cause, as both Gary Cahill and David Luiz were badly exposed.

But at 35, Terry isn’t getting any younger (in fact he’s deemed so old that he almost had to beg for a 1-year contract extension last year), and Conte is now looking for new defensive reinforcements.

Conte wants Bonucci

And he wants to bring them in as soon as January, according to The Sun.

The tabloid claim that Conte wants to bring Leonardo Bonucci in this January, having failed to sign him last summer.

Conte spent much of last summer trying to sign his former Juventus and Italy soldier, but eventually had to settle for David Luiz by default.

If Chelsea do go back in for Bonucci, it’ll cost them: Juve slapped a £50m price tag on his head last summer.
