Juventus to open talks with Chelsea over permanent transfer of winger Juan Cuadrado

Juventus are keen to open talks with Chelsea over the permanent signing of Juan Cuadrado.

The Colombian international has enjoyed a productive season on loan in Turin to help push the Old Lady within touching distance of the Serie A crown.

Cuadrado was allowed to leave by Jose Mourinho after failing to justify his £27million price-tag following his transfer from Fiorentina.

He made just 14 appearances before his loan move was sanctioned as the Blues decided to go with other options at the start of their ill-fated Premier League title defence.

But with Mourinho long gone and Antonio Conte ready to take over at Stamford Bridge, it appears there could yet be hope for Cuadrado in west London.

Conte has watched the winger’s progress closely this term on regular visits to his former club in his capacity as manager of the Italian national team.

He is an admirer of the wild-haired attacker and attempted to sign him from Fiorentina during his time as Juventus boss, however Chelsea swooped in to secure a deal.

But despite Conte’s links with Cuadrado, Juve director Giuseppe Marotta is hopeful of persuading the Blues to part with their asset.

“We have not held talks with Chelsea yet over Cuadrado, but it will be a complicated deal as well, just like with Morata,” he said.

“Juan has been important to us, but he is only on loan. Chelsea are well stocked in his position, though, so we will try to make a deal.”

Cuadrado has made approaching 40 appearances for Juventus this season and has rediscovered his enthusiasm for the game in Turin.
