Continuing their preparations for the new season, Juventus managed a 3-2 win over a West Ham United side that offered a physical test of the Bianconeri backline.

Although Paulo Dybala and Mario Mandzukic combined well to cap the visitors’ well-managed territorial domination of the first-half, two looping crosses onto the head of Andy Carroll brought the scores level, until Simone Zaza’s late winner.

With new signings Dani Alves and Miralem Pjanic comfortably embedded into the Bianconeri’s diamond formation, Juve moved the ball around with ease and bossed the game in terms of possession. In response, the hosts initially offered little and were undone with two goals in quick succession.

yards from goal and roll it home, just moments after Enner Valencia hit the post for West Ham, and soon after a set of accurate balls across the park culminated in the Argentine returning the favour for Mandzukic to score.

Whilst, in every sense, Juventus’ goals were typical of their intricate and balanced setup, Slaven Bilic’s side got back into the game with a move typical of their own build-up play, as Gianluigi Buffon was unable to keep Carroll’s fierce header out from a deep cross, the England international eventually bundling home.

For all their well-drilled attacking movement, it was a set-piece and goalmouth scramble where Juventus should have grabbed a third, although Medhi Benatia fired a close-range opportunity against the bar amidst a goalmouth scramble.

Settling back into their rhythm for the second-half, Massimiliano Allegri gave a first appearance to €90 million signing Gonzalo Higuain, although the striker lacked sharpness against a Hammers side that has already tasted competitive action in 2016/17.

Typically, a vast number of substitutes slowed the game down late on, although it was Hammers target Zaza who came on to net the winner for Juve, who host Espanyol on August 13 before Serie A kicks off.
