Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon spoke to the media following his side’s loss to Napoli in the Supercoppa in a penalty shootout. The Italian shot stopper saved three penalty shots but his side still lost.
In his post-match interview with RaiSport, the legendary goalkeeper spoke about the penalty shootout and said,:
“It happens that you save three penalty shots and lose. It happened to us today. This game leaves a bitter taste in our mouths because we had three opportunities to win it, both in extra time and in the penalty shootouts. Congratulations to Napoli who believed in the win and were rewarded for their belief.”
You made two huge saves. After you scored did you guys take your foot off the pedal?
“When there is only ten minutes left to play, your first instinct is to defend and not to risk anything because even your opponents aren’t at the peak of their abilities. We weren’t focused until the end of the game. Napoli wouldn’t have equalized and made it 2-2 against a focused team.”
Vidal spoke about being tired. What vote do you give 2014?
“I will reserve judgement until May. In regards to 2014, I’d say it leaves us with a sense of satisfaction even though we would have liked to win the Supercoppa. Second place for Juventus is always a loss.”
Can this loss, given it was on penalty shots, take away anything from this team moving forward?
“The Supercoppa is a trophy that we would have liked to win. The loss, in my opinion, will spur this team on and give us more hunger.
Garcia said today that they will win the Scudetto. What do you have to say to this?
“Eh, let’s hope we come in second at this point..(laughs)”
