Juventus captain Gianluigi Buffon has released an interview with the Spanish newspaper AS, talking about his career, the Champions League and the missed Golden Ball.
"The only moment in which I thought I was on the decline was after my injury to the shoulder. But who wrote my story wrote it in a different way.
About the Golden Ball:
"I don’t like saying “I could” or “I couldn’t”. I didn’t won it in 2006, that’s it, there is nothing else to say. Everyone can see what I did and who I am, and it is enough to judge. It is not even clear how the prize is assigned; if it is for the best player in the world, it will be a ten years challenge between Messi and Ronaldo.
Juventus needs something every winner of the Champions League has in order to become a great European team, that is players such as Cristiano Ronaldo or Messi. It is a great thing to have a player who, if it is a bad day, scores at least one goal. You start from the 1-0, it is a good advantage.
I signed a new contract with Juve because I’ve demonstrated that I deserved it. Legend? Legends have few human elements, I don’t like them. I am an athlete with a heart and a soul, if good or bad it is up to the others to say that. I consider myself as a player who has written a part of Calcio history, in Italy, in Europe and around the world. You become a legend when you’re dead, so I hope it will happen in a very remote future."
